Grommets & Eyelets
How do I determine which grommet size or style I need?
The correct grommet depends on several factors, including:
– Application
– Material type
– Material thickness
– Required inside diameter
– Grommet outside diameter
– Neck or barrel length
– Washer type
– Installation method
– Machine or tooling being used
GrommetMart offers many types of grommets and eyelets, including:
– Self-Piercing Grommets
– Sheet Metal Grommets
– Rolled Rim Grommets with Spur Washers
– Curtain and Drapery Grommets
– Oblong / Oval Grommets
– Stainless Steel Grommets
– Paper and Tag Eyelets
– Plastic Grommets
Please review our Size Chart for detailed product dimensions.
If you are unsure which product is correct for your application, please contact us before ordering. Photos, measurements, material information, application details, and physical samples can help us identify the correct product.
Grommets generally have a larger flange and provide greater surface coverage when installed in fabric, canvas, vinyl, paper, and other materials.
Eyelets are typically smaller and are commonly used for paper, tags, garments, labels, and lighter-duty applications.
The correct choice depends on the application, material thickness, required hole size, and installation method.
What is the difference between a self-piercing grommet and a sheet metal grommet?
Self-piercing grommets are designed to pierce compatible materials during installation without requiring a separately pre-punched hole.
Actual piercing performance depends on the material type, thickness, grommet size, and installation equipment. Testing is recommended whenever there is uncertainty about the application.
Sheet metal grommets are normally installed into a pre-punched hole or through an installation process in which the hole is created before the grommet is set.
Sheet metal grommets are available with several washer styles, including:
– Plain Washers
– Teeth Washers
– Neck Washers
Teeth washers can provide additional grip on certain fabrics and flexible materials.
Neck washers are commonly used with fully automatic feeding systems because their design helps provide more controlled washer feeding through automatic machine channels.
Available materials and finishes vary depending on the product type, size, and application.
Common materials may include:
– Brass
– Steel / Iron
– Stainless Steel
Common finishes may include:

Machines & Dies
Machine selection depends on several factors, including:
– Fastener type
– Fastener size
– Washer type
– Material being fastened
– Material thickness
– Required production volume
– Whether a pre-punched hole is required
– Manual, pneumatic, semi-automatic, or fully automatic operation
GrommetMart offers manual, pneumatic, semi-automatic, and fully automatic fastening machines.
Before ordering a machine, we strongly recommend confirming your application with our technical team.
No.
Machine compatibility depends on:
– Fastener type
– Fastener size
– Washer style
– Die configuration
– Feeding system
– Material
– Application
Some machines can accommodate different fastener sizes or types by changing dies or other machine components.
Other machines are designed or configured for specific fastening systems.
Please contact us before purchasing a machine if you are unsure about compatibility.
Not necessarily.
Some machines and package deals include specific dies, while other machines are sold separately from the required tooling.
Please carefully review the individual product description or quotation to confirm exactly what is included.
If you need assistance, provide the machine model, fastener type, and fastener size and we will help identify the correct tooling.
The correct die depends on:
– Machine model
– Grommet or fastener type
– Fastener size
– Washer type
– Installation method
Please do not select a die based only on appearance.
If you are unsure, send us the machine model, product number, fastener size, and photographs before ordering.
For certain machine applications, material and product testing may be available.
Testing is particularly useful for:
– Unusual materials
– Thick fabrics
– Webbing
– Multiple material layers
– Self-piercing applications
– Automatic feeding systems
– Custom fasteners
Please contact our technical team before sending material samples.
Product Compatibility
